9 January 2013
I wake up the next day and find that I'm on the floor. I sit up and crack my back. It's really stiff. I hear a noise from my bed. I look up and see Kat sprawled on just about every inch of the bed. That's why I'm on the floor! I glance at the digital alarm clock. There's no time on it. I should've known- this motel is horrible.
"You awake?" A voice asks from across the room. I stand up and walk over there.
"Yeah." It's Tessa.
"I woke up about an hour ago. These beds are so
uncomfortable!"
"Tell me about it!" I laugh and sit down on the lopsided sofa. Kat is still sleeping, Keleb gets the other room to himself (lucky!), but Summer is nowhere to be found.
"Where's Summer?" I ask.
"I don't know. She wasn't here when I woke up."
"She probably went outside for a run or something." I say, not really worried, even though I should be.
"Who's going for a run?" a voice asks. Kat.
"Maybe Summer. We don't know where she went." I answer. Kat yawns.
"Oh. I'm hungry. Do we have any food?"
My stomach growls and I realize how hungry I am, too. "Let me check." I trot over to the old-fashioned refridgerator and pull open the door. I swing it open and the fridge door falls right of it's hinges! I jump back and Kat starts laughing. Tessa runs over to the fridge.
"Is it broken?" I stare at her. What does she think? Tessa's face slowly turns into a smile and we both burst out laughing, along with Kat. Finally, we settle down and I peer into the fridge.
"Empty." I sigh. Of course it would be empty.
"Aww..." Kat moans. Poor kid.
"Hey- Summer might have gone to get some food." I point out.
"Maybe." Tessa replys.
"Can Summer get gummy worms?" Kat asks hopefully.
I can't help but smile. "No, Kat, Summer can't bring us gummy worms. She might not have gone to get food."
"Who might not have gone to get food?" A voice asks from across the room. I turn and find Keleb in the doorway.
"Summer. She disappeared." Keleb closes the door and walks in. He sits down on the carpet next to the lopsided, stained couch.
"Weird." Keleb looks at the floor.
"She's probably training or something. You know how Summer is." I sigh.
Tessa looks at me. "No, we don't. You do." Good point. They've only known Summer for... how long? A month? That's not enough time to get to know Summer, especially when life is full of danger.
"Yeah... Well, she's obsessed with training, and she can't go a day without it."
"Okay. Then she's probably training at a gym or something." Keleb says.
"Definatly."
"Or buying gummy worms!" Kat pipes up. Tessa and I look at each other and burst out laughing. Keleb looks confused, but starts laughing, too.
We calm down. "Hey, why is the fridge's door on the ground?" Keleb laughs.
"Long story." I answer, then start giggling. That brings another round of carefree laughter, Summer gone from our minds.
We should've been thinking about Summer, because we were wrong about where she went.
We weren't even close...
