Twitter is a social networking site and is 2nd most popular of them all (Facebook is 1st). Tweets are like Facebook posts, but they are limited to 140 characters. Why? They don't want us clogging the servers. One byte is one character. Take all the tweets together. How much data is taken? A lot, Facebook takes a lot more (nearly 1TB). Servers go down if there is an overload, and that's why.
