Story Time..
I watched the sun rise over the ocean today, though the sight is nothing compared to the sun peeking through the valleys between the mountains. How the clouds touch the rocks and grains of sand in such a way that I am left to believe that tomorrow may never come. It is quite the beautiful scene, the start of a new day, that is. But the steady ascent of the moon is just as beautiful, too.
There were lightning bugs we captured in jam jars and a river just beyond our sight, cracked rocks and gnarled trees bent out of shape. The Wind, Cricket and Frog orchestra played a lovely melody and we couldn’t help but laugh along, begging for more at the end of their song. We danced to nature’s tune and jumped from rock to rock in the water to get to the other side, pausing on one so I could pull you into an embrace and hold you there. We smiled, our foreheads and noses brushing together with our eyes closed and you leaned in, just as I laughed and pushed you into the current. But you pulled me with you and we swam to a point where we could just float and count the stars, going to wish upon the shooting ones before we realized all either of us would and could wish for was lying right next to us.
We are hours and miles away from each other you and I, catching glimpses of the same sun rising and falling over the same horizon through dusty windows. There are times when we are alone, however, and we grow lonely in turn. But we smile and laugh anyways, for as long as we sleep and wake beneath the same sky, we are never truly alone.
