I was shopping at the thrift store, and I found the perfect shoes. I tried them on and loved them. My friend said to me "those make you look way more punk." . I froze, was punk a style now? No longer an attitude, but something that could be described? I shook it off and accepted the complement with a nod and a grunt. I knew she ment well, she knew of my ever lasting love of the punk-grunge world.
But later, I could feel it. That statement was pounding the back of my head. Then all the same questions came circling back. Could it be, no one really understood what I did when the word "punk" was said? Is it that now, punk is all dark hair and band shirts?
No. No. That's not what it is, just because society got it wrong doesn't mean anythings changed. Punk is strong, and free willed. Unwavering, and unsettling. Gone but never dead.
Rad and fierce. Still there, just slightly remastered. A lifestyle, an attitude.
"punk is just plain, not giving a shit"
