~This is a small excerpt from a story I am working on.
The blinding light flashes across her eyes just before the excruciating pain sets into every pore of her making her cry out for a moment, before the heart breaking sound of another small cry silences her. “No” She mumbles softly when she hears the cries of pain and terror coming from the back seat where her 6month old baby girl summer is strapped into her car seat. “No…No…NO!” she scream’s out as she tries to turn to get to her daughter. Closing her eyes and pushing her own pain aside she turn’s as much as she can with the steering wheel pinning her back to the seat, as she look’s to her husband, the lacerations and bruises on his face telling her that it’s too late “Eric...” she breathes out as she lets a tear slip from her eye, just one silent tear for the man who meant the world to her.
“Summer baby girl, hold on please” She pleads with her daughter as the sound of the crying softens, until all she can hear is the ragged breathing, “Don’t give up, mommy’s here”. Closing her eyes tightly she once again tries to move to get to her daughter, but with her legs and back pinned by the steering wheel all she can do is sit there hopelessly while her daughter chokes out her last breath before the car falls silent “No” she croaks out before the pain becomes too much and it consumes her, dragging her into darkness. Her last thoughts were Good, now I can be with them…
