"Did you see the nurse's face?" Lampton laughed as he watched me intently.
I nodded, not trusting my voice, but then started laughing all over again. I bet my mum and dad wouldn't see the funny side.
"FREYA!" The bellowing voice called. It was official, my father had been told.
Me and Lampton looked at each other, we were deadly quiet now. He motioned for me to follow him into the denser part of the rose garden, I didn't say a thing, just followed closely behind. Then he took my hand and the warmth of it shot through my body and made me shiver slightly.
"Are you cold?" He whispered, his eyes on mine. I shook my head but he still shrugged out of his crimson riding jacket and put it round my shoulders.
His scent hit me like seeing light after being in a dark place for a while, paralysing. It was a sweet smell mixed with the smell of rain on a musky day. Oddly perfect. He didn't smell like his brothers, they smelled like fairy dust, sickly sweet.
And so suddenly Lampton pulled me into his arms, he was so close I could feel his breath on my head, and we remained there as the sound of footsteps got closer then faded away.
"I can't deal with the look of disappointment again" I huffed, sending my jagged fringe all over the place. Lampton nodded, we both knew that look too well.
"Freya?" Lampton asked. I looked up to find him already looking down at me. He licked his plump red lips before continuing. "What if we went to see Reswart? Do you think he could help us at all?" There was a look of longing on his face. It was that look that told me that he had been thinking about that for a long time.
I shook my head. "You know how badly his deals go. They're almost as bad as Rumplestiltskin's deals and you know it. We couldn't do that. They say you have to be prepared for him, we could never be prepared"
Lampton looked towards the floor now. "But think about it, Freya. No more parents, no more responsibility, just me and you. That's it. Me and you in a small cottage on the edge of the woods, like where Snow White stayed"
I laughed. "The cottage was in the middle of the woods, Lampton, and it's still there, remember? The dwarves live there still" I replied.
"Oh, yeah. Well still, a little cottage just for us. We could even build it ourselves" He said, the look of longing still on his face.
"Lampton, we can't. You know my mum and dad need me at the moment" I replied.
"But, Freya, you just get in the way, remember? They said you do too, remember? They told you that Aurora was their perfect child and you're just second best. How long has Aurora been asleep, Freya? Surely they'd figure Charming really isn't coming back but no, they still hold onto believing that he will. And where are you in all of this? In all of the family portraits? You aren't there, Freya! And why aren't you there, Freya? Because you aren't her. You aren't like the others, they are ashamed of you. The accidental princess. You even call yourself that, Freya" Lampton said, getting angrier the more he spoke.
"No" I disagreed, pushing against him. He didn't let me go, so I started pounding my fists into his chest. Still, he didn't let me go.
I started repeating "no" over and over. It was true what he was saying, it had always been in my mind, but it was just harder hearing him say it. Hearing someone say what had been in my mind since I was young.
My knees were shaking now, tears falling down my cheeks, and Lampton held me up. He was my rock, keeping me together despite being the one who shattered me to pieces.
"Come with me, Freya" Lampton finally whispered.
