I hadn't eaten much, I was too busy thinking. I was wondering who this person my dad was taking me to, I really wanted to know, and seeing as no one started a conversation with me over dinner I didn't bother to try and socialise with them either. I liked it better like this, thinking things through while pushing my food from one side of the plate to the other.
"Not hungry, huh, Freya?" My dad finally whispered. I shook my head so he took my hand and led me out of the room. Everyone stood up as he did and when the door shut behind me a wide grin spread across his face.
"Ready?" He asked.
"Um, I guess so?" I replied which made his smile grow. He let go of my hand but led me down into the dungeons.
As we passed the cells the inmates looked at me but they didn't look at me like I was mad, they looked at me with respect. Soon enough they was smiling at me, all of them we passed, and it wasn't a mocking smile. It was more like they was pleased to see me, pleased to know I was there and alright. I smiled back and nodded my head at each of them as I passed.
"Long live Princess Freya" One called out, to my surprise, then all the others shouted their agreements. This shocked me and I stopped. Father stopped too, he was smiling at me.
"They all know too, Freya. They know you're here to save us" He grinned down at me.
"Really?" I asked, cautiously. Dad nodded, a smile on his face.
"Reswart will have our heads if he finds out, Miss Freya" The man in the cell before me said. He was a tall man, bald and well built. He had so many scars on his arms and face that I was too scared to ask where they came from but he had a warm smile, which made me want to smile back. That's what I did, I smiled back, and his eyes lit up with a look of pure joy.
"What is your name?" I asked, moving closer to him.
He bowed ever so slightly and said the word, "Pain"
I nodded. "Well, Pain, I want you to hear these words, I will only say this once. No one looses their heads now that I'm here" I said slowly. I didn't want anyone to miss what I had to say. "I will stop this, you hear me? Whatever it takes I will get you all out of here"
They all cheered but were quickly hushed by my dad because he didn't want to draw attention to us. He then led me to the highly guarded room right at the end, it wasn't guarded this time however. We walked straight in.
The room inside was dark, the only light coming from a small window that was so close to the ceiling that you couldn't see outside anyway. I could see someone sitting inside, their toes in the sun.
"How are you feeling?" Dad asked, leading me into the room. He knelt beside this person and handed them a loaf of bread that had been hidden in his pocket.
"Better now that I've seen her" The man replied. I knew him, I knew I did. His voice I remembered well, although I had known him a little while.
"Charming?" I whispered.
