21 October 2012

We rode. I wouldn't be able to explain how fast our horses went but, either way, it was fast. It wasn't long until the palace came into view and the first thing we saw was the west tower. I was starting to despise that tower very much. If I ever got back then I'd have to get someone to knock that tower down.

The sun was shining, the day was lovely, and I didn't know why this came into my mind. I was worried, I wondered again where Lampton was, and I was about to embark on something that could save many lives. It was all down to me.

We rode straight into the palace grounds and into what looked like a graveyard of bodies. All the soldiers who had tried to stop my men had been knocked unconscious.

I grinned, my men weren't killers, and I was grateful to have them. We had to dismount our horses there but I had a feeling where Reswart was and we ran.

"Are you sure he's there?" Lina called from behind me.

"Yes." I breathed. I somehow knew he was there. "I can feel it"

They didn't question me further, just ran with me. Soon we were running down corridors and seeing things I had never known were in my home. Paintings of my mum and dad with Reswart and Aurora. Aurora holding a baby with a frog face. Me holding a normal child in my arms and Lampton grinning down at us. Paintings of a life I had been dragged into unwillingly and the same one that I was trying to change. I was trying to reverse what had been done.

We ran up the stairs practically three at a time and burst through the door at the top. Nothing had changed since the last time I saw this room. The only slight difference was that Reswart was sitting on the bed, waiting for us. Waiting for me.

"Welcome, Princess, I've been waiting for you" He grinned as we all moved closer, the other two flanking me.

"And I've been looking for you, Reswart" I grinned back at him.

He nodded. "I knew you was coming. As soon as those men came, with poor old Charming in lead, I knew." He grinned.

"I've come to settle some things once and for all" I moved closer to him. He got to his feet, still smiling at me.

"I know." He replied, surprisingly calm. "And I am waiting to silence you once and for all"

"You will never silence me" I snarled down at him.

I hadn't realised how close we were until now, I was actually looking down at him. He was grinning up at me and I didn't see it until it was too late. He pulled his hand up and blew powder into my face. Nothing happened at first but then my muscles started to spasm, my legs broke from beneath me and my arms failed to catch my fall.

I heard Lina screaming, "What did you do to her?"

I knew what he had done although it had never happened to me before. Paralysing powder.

Reswart stood over me, watching me closely, and grinning like mad. "Look who's won, Princess. Who always wins? Me. Reswart wins today and any day. No one can outsmart me." He grinned.

Out of the corner of my eye I could see Alice, who was grinning, and she reached into her pocket for something. Suddenly she was leaning over me, crying.

"Freya, get up!" She cried then stuffed a flower into my mouth. I didn't have time to react at all before she stuffed another flower into my hand and closed it.

Reswart growled at her. "Get off her." He slapped Alice with the back of this hand, as he had done with Aurora.

I could feel the flower dissolving on my tongue, ever so slightly. Alice had done it on purpose, I could feel my muscles returning to my control, and I knew what I was holding in my hand.

"Stay back!" Reswart growled then moved closer to me, his face inches from mine. "You've lost you know? Silly, Princess, you would never have won against me. You're too naive, you would never have beat me at my own game, I'm too smart for you"

I grinned now and his mouth dropped open. Perfect. I shoved the flower into his mouth, held one hand over his mouth and the other on the back of his head. He wasn't getting away this time.
