Lampton still held my hand and led the way past the bed of hay beside the wall. Remedy followed behind us, her head resting on my back. She wasn't pushing me forward and her head didn't leave my back, but she was letting me guide her for fear of the unknown.
The smoke wasn't hard to find, it was thick and made us choke with every step closer towards where Reswart was. But Reswart wasn't far. His house, which was no more than a little wooden hut with a thatched roof, was hidden between two rather large thorn bushes and if it wasn't for the light coming out from underneath the door, we would have walked straight past it.
Lampton stepped forward and knocked on the wooden door. He complained to himself about a splinter as the door swung open. I couldn't see inside the hut so passed Lampton and went inside.
Unlike the outside, the inside seemed huge. In the middle of the room there was a giant cauldron which sat on a pile of bricks and things were hung on the walls around the hut. There were some shrunken heads on the walls and various items for potion making. I didn't like the look of this place.
"Hello? Mr. Reswart, are you there?" I called into the stillness.
"Of course I am" A croaky voice replied. I stepped further into the hut, watching my feet with every step, then I turned around to look where Lampton was and found a small plump man behind me. He took me by surprise and I took a slight step away from him.
"Take it in, Princess" He snarled, showing me his teeth. They were like no other that I had seen before. His teeth were wolf-like but each tooth was separated from the next one and they were decaying slightly. He also had the nose of a cat, whiskers and all, and the rest of his face was like a frog's. But there was one thing that stuck out to me, it told me that he was the one we were looking for and that was the wart on his left cheek.
"Now, what do you two want? I have little patience when it comes to royalty" He croaked.
"We've come for your help, Reswart" I replied as Lampton took my hand.
"Tell me something I don't know, Princess" He smiled to himself.
"We want you to help us change something. We want to not be a Prince and Princess anymore. Me and Freya want to live in a little cottage with Remedy and live happily" Lampton smiled. His eyes were shining, he was enjoying knowing that soon we would be together forever.
"Can't be done" Reswart said, turning away from us.
"What!?" I practically screamed.
He turned back to us and stared at me with his inky black eyes. "It. Can't. Be. Done" He said slowly, not wanting me to miss a word.
"Now you listen here, Mister! We aren't leaving until you give us what we want!" Lampton said stubbornly.
Reswart smiled slowly and it scared me. "Want a bet?" He replied.
I stepped forward quickly. "Hold on! Let's not get rash about this. Please, Reswart, please help us" I begged.
He continued glaring at Lampton before sighing. "I know exactly what you need" He said to me then walked over to part of the wall and took something off the wall. He then came back with three dried purple flowers. He gave one to me, one to Lampton then fed one to Remedy.
"Eat up, Princess" He smiled as I stared down at the flower.
I then looked up at Lampton. He nodded, smiled then threw his flower into his mouth and chewed quickly before swallowing. Lampton gave me the thumbs up so I put the flower I had in my hand in my mouth. The taste was sour, rotten, but I carried on chewing. Soon enough I swallowed the large lump it had become. It was gross!
"Remember, Princess, if this isn't what you want then all you have to do is find me. It is as simple as that" He grinned but I wasn't listening properly, my head was suddenly very heavy. Black spots were clouding my vision, I wasn't sure what was going on.
As I was falling to the ground I heard Reswart say, "That is if you remember who I am" and he laughed. My head was too hazy to realise what was going on.
