Stepping into the house seemed like a breath of fresh air. It seemed so peaceful and calm inside. I had never been to a place like it and I loved it right away. "This is going to be your home until you're better, Sweetie" The blonde nurse said. It seemed like she called everyone sweetie. "Ready?" She asked from behind me. I gulped then nodded. I wasn't ready for this. She wheeled me into a small office by the front door and shut the door behind us. She rummaged through a draw then came out with a bunch of keys. "Now, I will warn you. This isn't an average rehab house." She said, which I already knew.

This rehab place was for children deemed "different" by society. I was in a wheelchair, paralysed from the waist down, and they said that if I came here then I would be better. I didn't want to be better. I didn't mind being in a wheelchair or being deemed different. I was still me. Just me with less feeling in my legs. But there were other children in here. Children with "issues". Ones that didn't like being touched or spoke to the people in their mind or was completely mute.

We were different and they didn't like it. "I know it isn't" I replied. "I don't want you talk to any of the other patients while you're here" She said suddenly. "Why not?" She looked shocked at my reply. "Because they're different and you aren't like them. So stay out of their way." "No" I replied. "I'll talk to whoever I like." "No, you won't" She growled so I shrugged. I wasn't going to have someone tell me who I could talk to. "Now, your room is upstairs." She said, opening her office door. "Are you joking?" "Not at all, I don't joke. We're getting a lift built but it isn't finished yet, it'll be done sometime tomorrow hopefully" She replied. That's when we heard the crash. She ran off, leaving me sitting there. I didn't know where to go so I just stayed there.

I was in the way, you could say. I knew that and it made it clearer when a kid tripped over me. When he got to his feet, he stood looking down at me. His light brown hair was covering his eyes, which as far as I could see were brown, and he seemed a little tall from where I sat. I bet he wasn't even that tall if I stood. There was blood rolling down the knuckles on his right hand. "Did it make you feel better?" I asked. He looked down at his hand too then shrugged. "A window?" I pressed. He nodded. "Yeah, sometimes they just get in the way" I grinned. It was my pathetic try at a joke, if you could call it a joke, but he gave me the weirdest half smile as if he were humouring me then shook his head and legged it up the stairs. "Where'd he go?" The blonde nurse stormed towards me. I pointed towards the door at the end of the hall. I guessed it led to the back garden but she nodded and stormed in that direction. "Thanks" I looked up to see him crouching at the top of the stairs, grinning. I shrugged then wheeled myself away. I had to show myself around then.
