(Half inspired by @sammielee46 's piece "Grandads" and by a conversation I had with my mum. She basically told me that my grandad was ill yet still sat me on his lap when I was crying. He didn't do that with the others. As my dad usually jokes "he was a grumpy old sod" haha)
I know I don't remember you I was young when you died too
But it would've been lovely for me To sit upon your knee
While you told me a story or two By age 10, all of them I would've knew
I would've been your favourite one I would've been your light, your sun
You would've been mine too With none other, what could I do?
But you would sit me on my knee You would've made me see
That I was beautiful, perfectly me, Then you'd smile happily
My name, you loved it On your knee, I'd sit
Because I'd be your granddaughter And you'd watch me grow I'm sorry you never got to But I love you, you know?
