My name? Well my father called me Ella but it was really Elma. My father was a dwarf, somehow I had inherited my mum's height and not my dad's. I've been told my mum was 5"5. Yes, "was", my mother died when I was little, or so my dad had me believe for the first 15 years of my life and then I realised that she wasn't. It was around that time I realised how bad a liar my father was.
"Ella, have you picked the berries yet?" My father's voice called out.
"Yeah, give me two seconds, dad" I called back, grinning to myself.
I'd picked them ages ago, I was just scared, and my father guessed that. His form shaded me from the morning sun. I grinned up at him. My father's eyes were a light shade of blue, verging on the edge of being white, and his hair was dark brown. I had his eyes, I loved them, but I had shoulder length black hair.
"You okay, squirt?" He asked, smiling.
"I'm scared, Father" I replied.
His grin grew. "Don't be silly, she's lovely. Now come on, bring the berries inside"
I stood and followed him through the trees and into the clearing on the other side. Our home was there, hidden within the forest, and welcoming to anyone. We stepped out into out open plan downstairs and I froze. Sitting in my armchair, which was battered and old, she looked out of place. There was a smile on her face and she was chatting excitedly to my uncles. Her short hair was ebony and her skin was ivory. Her lips were bright red and she didn't seem to notice how much my uncles were in awe of her.
"Ella, this is Queen Snow White" My father grinned, taking the basket of berries from me.
That caught her attention and she stood at the sight at me. Her smile grew as she looked me up and down. I didn't look like much, just a thin girl with dirty knees and nails, but she started to cry. My uncles surrounded her, trying to calm her down, but my father just watched me and I watched her. I had never seen her before in my life but I had heard many stories and I knew what she had done to help my uncles and father. She wiped her eyes and looked at me.
"Ella, it is lovely to finally meet you" She smiled.
"You too, your majesty" I replied, bowing slightly.
"Are you ready?" She asked.
I looked at my father then back at her. "Ready?"
She smiled. "Yes, Ella. You are coming back with me, to my castle, and you are going to become a lady"
I nodded. I remembered my dad saying something about that but I was too busy daydreaming to take in the information fully. Sometimes I wished I listened more.
