"It's nice to finally meet you, Elma" Lady Red smiled.
Lucas let out a laughing snort. "Your name is Elma?" He laughed.
Lady Red was watching me and she nodded. "What do you go by then?" She asked.
"Ella" I replied, my throat feeling dry.
She nodded again. "Your dad wanted to call you that" She smiled sadly.
"Yeah, he told me. My mum never let him because she knew I would be different so she thought I should have a different name to go with it" I explained. I had the feeling that she knew this though because, as I spoke, she kept on nodding.
"How is your dad?" She asked.
"Father is okay" I shrugged.
She nodded yet again.
"Are you going to tell her or keep up with this idle chat?" Lucas added impatiently.
I looked between the two of them. "Tell me what?" But neither of them answered. Lucas kept on looking out of the window, ignoring me completely, and Lady Red was looking down. They were both trying to ignore me and I didn't like being ignored.
"Lady Red, I told you that I would speak to Ella first" A voice called out from behind me. I turned to find Snow White standing behind me. She smiled then nodded.
"Go back to your room, Lucas. I will be there shortly" Snow White said calmly but there was something about the way she spoke that made me feel like no one wanted to mess with her. Lucas didn't look at anyone as he made his way towards the stairs and he didn't look behind either but it wasn't long before he was out of sight.
"Laed, she doesn't know who you are. You need to know that everything is new to her, you can't just jump straight in." Snow White said softly, walking towards Lady Red.
Lady Red nodded. "I know, Snote, but it's so hard for me too. Knowing that she's so near but I can't hold her." Lady Red replied quietly. She looked like she was about to start crying.
"I know, I know" Snow White replied.
Lady Red turned away. "No, you don't"
"Red, I do. You've waited a long time for this, just wait a little longer, okay?"
Lady Red turned to look at me. "But look at her, White. She needs to know"
"Know what?" I asked.
A panicked look flew onto Snow White's face. "Nothing" She said quicker than I had ever heard her speak before.
"She needs to know" Lady Red said, smiling at me.
"Know what?" I asked again.
"Nothing" Snow White snapped.
I knew Lady Red was going to tell me, I could tell this by the smile on her face. She looked like she was about to achieve something, something she had waited a long time to achieve, but I couldn't ever imagine what the words to come out of her mouth were.
She was smiling, tears in her eyes, and very slowly she said, "I'm your mother"
