I didn't know what to say. What do you say when you've been lead to believe that your mother was dead all your life then to find that the Queen's sister was your mother? What was there to say?
"Say something" Lady Red urged.
They were getting closer to me and I didn't like it so I did what I knew best. I turned and ran. I ran down the stairs, as scared as I was before I didn't care now, and I ran down corridor after corridor. Somehow I found myself outside the library again so I went inside to hide. Lucas was already waiting for me, sitting in a big brown armchair.
"I knew you'd come back here" He smiled and it looked genuine.
"Why?" I asked.
He grinned. "It is probably the only room you do know how to get to" He replied.
I shrugged. "What do you want?" I moved closer to him and sat in the armchair opposite. It seemed to engulf me, I felt tiny in the chair.
"Just to talk" He shrugged.
"Talk then" I replied.
Lucas smiled. "Are you okay?" He asked.
I grinned. "You want to talk yet you ask me if I am okay"
"Yeah, I'm asking you."
I huffed. "Then yes, I am okay. Are you okay?" I asked.
"Yeah, I guess so. So how are you liking it here so far?"
"Hmm, tough question. I've been told my whole life that my mother was dead and now I not only met new people but I've been told that my mum is alive and is the Queen's sister. I guess this'd be a normal day to you people but not to me. So to answer your question, I don't like it here. At all!" I replied.
Lucas nodded then smiled. "Yep, just a normal day to my people" He said in a posh voice then winked at me. And with that, we were laughing like we were old friends and somehow that made me feel so much better. Just sitting there with someone I found remotely normal was good but to have a friend when I had never had a friend before, now that made me feel like things were looking up.
"So where are you from, Ella?" He asked.
I shrugged. "The forest"
"No seriously?" He looked so confused so I had to laugh.
I nodded. "My father is Paton"
"Meaning the Paton of the dwarves?" He asked, shocked.
I nodded again. "His brothers are my uncles and Paton is my father and I grew up in their home in the woods."
"That's amazing." Lucas laughed. "What is Paton like?"
I shrugged. "A dad?" Then I started laughing and Lucas joined in. We stopped not long later at the sound of approaching feet then the door opened.
"Lord Lucas, have you seen Lady Ella anywhere?" A voice called out.
"No, sorry, Caplin. Oh wait, I have seen her. When I came in here she ran past, she was going towards the entrance hall" Lucas smiled.
"Thank you" The voice replied then the door shut again and the footsteps faded away.
"I'm not lord yet, I don't get why he calls me it" Lucas huffed then smiled at me.
"Why are they looking for me?" I asked.
"They probably think you're going to go rogue or something. Or the queen wants you" He shrugged.
"Well I've seen enough of them two today, I don't want to see her or Lady Red until my head is a little clearer" I smiled.
"I'll help you with that, if you want?" Lucas grinned and I nodded. That would be great, I thought.
Just me and Lucas against them. It seemed right to me.
