She looked to her daughter A tear in her eye She knew it wasn't the right time For them to see her cry
All the same, she was tearful For her baby was going away No longer the little girl She had loved before today
Her daughter gave her a look And told her, "mum, I'm fine" Then she warned her not to drink All the leftover wine
Her daughter so grown up Leaving home today A place once full and colourful Is now just dull and grey
She has to let her daughter Spread her wings and go But she just wants her daughter To live with her at home
