It wasn't long before they crawled into a bigger tunnel and was able to stand. A bright light flickered on to their right. It blinded Anna momentarily but she could see well enough to notice the shadow before her. The man who stood before her was huge. He was tall and plump.
"This the girl?" He asked, even his voice was a booming one.
"This, Patero, is my sister" Callum grinned as he put his arm around her.
"Doc did say the pod would bring a girl" Patero replied, straight-faced, then he turned and started to walk away. Callum followed him, with Anna trailing not far behind. The floor was grubby and there has been a landslide to the left of the hole they had crawled out of. The fallen walls blocked the whole of the pathway but, although she was curious, Anna was glad she wasn't going down there. Instead they were going up, towards the surface.
"After you, m'lady" Patero smiled as Anna rounded the corner to find an old rusty ladder before her. Callum was already gone so she launched herself up the ladder and into the full glare of sunlight.
Cheers erupted into the air as she climbed out of the hole. She didn't know why they were cheering but when she looked up there was only one person there.
He was standing there, his hands in his trouser pockets, looking right at Anna. There was a half smile on his face and a shine in his green eyes which told her he had hoped it was her in the pod.
"Hello there, Anna" He said slowly.
