"If I was your mate, would you care?" Scruff replied after a minute of silence. "No" I replied, truthfully. Maybe I was hoping he was but wasn't that a little weird? My soul mate, my one true love, a wolf. "Is there any way to change you back?" I asked, slowly. "I don't know" He whispered. "It doesn't matter, Scruff, it really doesn't matter" I whispered back then put my arm round him. He leant into me and I could feel his heartbeat. It was beating fast, like he was scared, but then it started to slow down. "Can you feel that?" He whispered. I could. His heart was slowing down to match mine. "Mates" We both whispered. Somehow we fell asleep like that, leaning against each other, but first-light seemed to come too quickly. I awoke before him and, moving slowly, laid him down. If you had told me two days earlier that a wolf was my soul mate then I would've just laughed. "He's given up so much, hasn't he?" Red whispered so I nodded. I didn't know if she could see me but I just nodded anyway. What if it wasn't even her and it was just me thinking I could hear her voice? Red sighed. "Get over yourself, Nova." She laughed. "We're close" A small voice said beside me as my stomach growled. I laughed as I looked down at Seth. "How close?" I asked. "Very. We can make it in a couple of hours or even less if you run" He replied. "Seth, I need you to do me a favour." I said, slowly. He replied perhaps too quickly, "anything" I smiled. "Don't wake Scruff up and don't tell him where I am. I'm going alone, okay? Stay here" He nodded, although he didn't want to, and replied, "Be careful" I went off running, faster than I'd ever ran before.
Part:12 - in the view of Scruff.
I couldn't remember Nova moving, I just woke up and she wasn't there. The sun was higher in the sky than I hoped. It was practically midday. Where was nova? 'Where is nova?' That was all that was going through my mind. Had she gone because she was scared? Was it because I was her love? I was supposed to be the one she woke up to each and every morning? Didn't she want that? Or was she getting food and I was just over-thinking like usual? Where was she? Seth was awake. He knew something, I could tell this by the way he kept his head down. He made it look like he was really interested in the ash left over from the fire, he was pawing at it. "Where is she, Seth?" I said, sternly. "Who?" He replied, still looking down. "You know who, Seth. Where is nova?" I half growled, I was losing my patience. He stayed silent, his unseeing eyes fixed on the ground. "You know where she is, Scruff." An old voice replied like normal. "She's gone to save the day, become the hero. She's going to get herself killed without you and I won't be able to help her" Yeah, I had my secrets. Little Red Riding Hood was one of them. Like nova, I could hear little Red now and again. I growled, more out of impatience and the fact that Nova was stupid enough to go alone annoyed me. I shot off in a sprint. Nova had left before me, way before me, but I was a lot faster than she was. I just hoped I could catch up to her in time.
