Looking around, I saw nothing but trees. Then I saw the eyes, odd yellow eyes, and they didn't scare me. There were just two watching me, one wolf watching me. He was away from the pack and Red had always told me that a lone wolf didn't attack. But what I wanted to know was why was this wolf away from the pack? And why was it watching me?

I moved towards it, possibly the most stupid thing I had done in my life, but for some strange reason I wasn't scared.

I stopped a few yards from it. It had dark brown fur and it wasn't that big, I presumed it was only young.

"Don't let him smell your fear" Red's voice whispered to me. I wasn't scared, I was perfectly fine.

"Hey, little guy" I cooed.

The wolf snorted. "Little guy." She mimicked. Yes, she.

"I am very offended by that" She purred.

"You're a girl?" I asked. It was the silliest thing to ask, I knew that, but I didn't know what else I could say.

"Dur" She grinned. I was officially scared now. A wolf, a she-wolf, was grinning at me. It was all teeth and menacing, I didn't like it.

"You're looking for Little Red Riding Hood, right?" She asked, emphasising each word.

I nodded slowly. Sudden movements weren't good, Red had told me to stay still.

"Thought so" She purred, crawling towards me.

I had to move but had nowhere to go, she could outrun me quickly.

"Stop teasing the prey, Masira" A light growl came from behind me. I looked quickly at him. A wolf. He had dark brown eyes and black fur. He was huge.

"I won't taste nice. Promise. I'd taste bony, no meat, you won't want that." I said quickly. Maybe I should've taken my knife with me.

Masira laughed. "We won't eat you, honey"

This shocked me. "You won't?"

"Nope, Scruff said you were friendly. We've been watching you for a while, Nova. We want to help you" The male wolf said.

That was the most confusing thing I had ever heard. Wolves never helped humans, it was a rule.

"I'm Malik and this is my mate, Masira" He added. "Our son, Scruff, said you are different. He said you could help us, Nova"

I looked around. "Where is your son?" I asked.

They both looked up. I didn't want to, I knew I wouldn't like what I saw, but I did anyway. A wolf, bigger than his mum but smaller than his dad, was perched on the branch of a tree. He was watching me with his mother's yellow eyes and his fur, unlike both of theirs, was light brown. He grinned down at me and it wasn't like his mother's, it was more human-like than I ever thought possible. His smile didn't scare me, at all, and it scared me when I suddenly asked myself 'what if this is a trap?'
