Scruff started growling again, drool dripping from his mouth. His back legs were shaking and his ears were flat against his head.
"Leave her alone" Scruff snapped.
"Or what?" His brother growled.
Scruff turned to look at me, a daring move, but then he pounced towards me, teeth bared. I screamed and held my hands up to my face. I waited for the pain and, when it never came, I looked up. Standing before me now was a large wolf. He had black fur and light brown eyes. He was bigger than Scruff and he was smiling at me, his teeth showing.
"Hello, Nova" He growled. "It's nice to finally meet you. Scruff has been going on about you for a while, always going on about you and little Red. Where is Red now, Nova?"
I stayed quiet. What was there for me to say? I didn't know where Red was, that was why I was following Scruff in the first place.
The wolf took a step closer. "Oh yeah, that's right, you don't know. Do you? Scruff didn't tell you, did he?"
"Don't you dare" Scruff snapped behind me. I didn't turn round, I didn't want to look away from his brother. Then I heard snapping of teeth. Scruff was fighting.
"A wolf took Red" Scruff's brother told me.
I knew that, I wasn't stupid. I nodded.
"Scruff led them to her. To you."
"You lie" I replied.
He shook his head slowly. "Ask Scruff" He smiled, walking towards me. His eyes fell on something behind me and I kept my eyes on him as he walked towards Scruff. When he had passed me, I looked up. Scruff had a light brown wolf pinned to the floor and it's ear in his mouth. The wolf was wining but it didn't look like he was hurting it, just telling it who was boss.
"Alright, Scruff, she won't attack you anymore." His brother said, moving closer to them.
Scruff got off her and moved between me and them as his brother helped the wolf up.
"Are you alright, Alina?" He asked as she hugged to his side. She was breathing heavily and her grey eyes were locked on a spot on the ground. Slowly, she nodded.
"Why are you doing this, Fang?" Scruff asked.
"I was promised a life away from the pack if I brought her back with me" Fang replied.
"Why after all this time do you want to get away? You betrayed us to be in that pack and now you want out?" Scruff said.
His brother nodded. "We need to get out, Brother."
"You betrayed us" Scruff shouted.
"What like you did with, Nova? You told them where Red was so you could get to Nova because you need her, don't you? You just don't want to admit that she's the one that's going to save you" His brother growled.
"Scruff needs you. You need to save him, Nova. You are the key" Red's voice whispered in my ear.
I'm the key? The key to what?
