It seemed like we played for hours, well it must have been, because the next time I pried my eyes away from the keys it was dark out. "Wow" I huffed. "Yeah, do you want food now?" Garrett replied, leaning his guitar against the piano. "I best not, sorry. You promised my dad I'd be home before it got dark" I replied. "No, I promised you that. Your dad just said not too late" He grinned, catching me out. "Fine," I smiled. "Dinner it is"
We took the lift back down but nothing happened this time, we just sat next to each other because the lift was packed. He then took me to an area which seemed least used by the public. "Is pizza okay with you?" He asked. When I nodded he opened a small dark brown door and pulled me inside. The restaurant had booths against the pale blue walls and a few small round tables, with white cloths draped over them, were in the middle of the floor. The room was dimly lit but it added to the effect of having candles on the tables. Garrett took me over to one of the booths as a waitress lit the candles at our table and set two menus down. She grinned at Garrett, who just ignored her, then twirled a strand of her hair round a finger. She stood there just staring down at Garrett. I wasn't sure why it annoyed me so much because I'd known him about a day but it annoyed me a lot. "We aren't ready to order yet, maybe you should come back in a bit" I said, flatly, letting my annoyance out slightly. She nodded, getting the picture, then walked off without another look at either of us. When she was out of earshot, Garrett laughed and leant in closer. "Thank you," He said then laughed again. "That was odd" "Yeah, she was annoying me" I replied. "Jealous?" He teased. "No" I replied maybe too quickly. We sat there in silence for a while until a slow smile crossed his face and I found myself smiling too. "You shouldn't be jealous, she isn't all that" He grinned as we both looked over at her. She was leaning over the counter into the kitchen, her boobs half hanging out of her tight top and half the guys in the place was looking at her arse, which was half out of her shorts. "Yeah, you're right, she needs to cover up." I replied, looking down at the menu. "Wonder if they think she's easy" I mumbled, mostly to myself. "She's not, I know that for sure" He replied then started to blush when he realised he'd said it aloud. I laughed now. "You date her then?" I asked, casually, but it felt like my heart was bring ripped in two. I didn't know what was wrong with me, I had dated guys before and I hadn't known him that long but for some reason I still didn't like it. "No," He laughed. "But I chased her round like a fool in high school. I wasn't exactly a cool kid, I'm still not now, but apparently it makes you instantly cool being in a band." "She thinks you're irresistible now that you're in a band?" I grinned. "Exactly" He said then grinned back. "But doesn't everyone?" "You aren't all that" I teased. "Oh really? Is that right?" He said, leaning forward. "Yeah, that's right" I replied, leaning forward too. Before he could do anything I kissed him which made his smiled grow wider. "I'm not hungry anymore" He stated then kissed me back. "Me either" I replied, standing. "I will bring you back here sometime soon, maybe when she's not working. Their pizzas are nice" Garrett replied, standing too.
As soon as we stepped out into the cold night air, Garrett shrugged out of his leather jacket and helped me into it. "Better?" He asked as if I were freezing but, weirdly, it was better. He led me to the beach, where we got chips, then sat on a bench looking out at the sea. It was more beautiful at night. The moon sat quite low in the sky, being large tonight, and very full and bright. The sea was calm and the moon shone across it, silently inviting me to soak my feet. And that's just what I did. I took my shoes off, left Garrett, and stood with my feet in the sand and sea. I could feel Garrett watching me but I didn't turn round to smile at him, it was just too nice. With the slight chilling breeze, the cold sea, the warm sand and comfortable jacket, I felt happy. "Lovely, isn't it?" Garrett whispered, standing beside me. Usually that would have made me jump, someone sneaking up on me like that, but he was so calm and quiet when he spoke that it didn't scare me at all. "Yeah, it is." I felt I had to whisper back as he took my hand slowly and carefully, as if one sudden movement could break me. "Just like you" He whispered as he blushed deeply.
