Lachlan and Jess watched me intently. My head was spinning so I just sat down. My life was going to get a whole lot worse. I was already 'mentally unstable' and now I was crushing on a wolf as well. My life has seriously gone down the pan.
"Egy, are you okay?" Jess asked. She seemed scared and I had never seen her scared before.
I placed my head in my hands and shook my head. A wolf and a ghost. Those things weren't real. Well ghosts could be, there was sightings all the time, but a boy that shifts into a wolf? That was just unreasonable and so ridiculous.
"She's thinking this through" Jess stated. "She did it when she first saw me."
Jess was always so sure of herself. But what if they were just imaginary friends like what Dr Winston said? That would be more reasonable and then I could take tablets and everything would be OK!
"Effy, honey" It was my mother's voice. Happy as usual. I looked up now as she was standing next to Lachlan, smiling down at me.
"Hi, mum" I grinned, holding out my hand. She helped me to my feet then turned to Lachlan.
"I'm Effy's mother, Delcia." She said, holding out her hand.
Lachlan took her hand. "Effy's boyfriend, Lachlan" He grinned, a secret within his smile.
My mum looked at me, her mouth shaped like an O then she gave me an approving look.
Letting go of Lachlan's hand, she said, "Well, it was nice meeting you. I'll see you later, Effy. Don't be too late now" and she just walked away. Just like that.
I guess that pushed the imaginary friend idea out of the window. Perfect timing on my mother's side. I guess she was happy I had a friend. But boyfriend.
I gave Lachlan a confused look. "Boyfriend?" I asked.
His smile grew wider. "Want to go on a date?" He asked, watching me intently.
I couldn't help the smile that grew across my face. It was an automatic thing. But I nodded and the smile grew wider, along with his own.
Then Lachlan leaned forward, told me he'd pick me up at 7, kissed me on the cheek then walked away. The whole time Jess was doing her crazy little ghost girl dance and you know what? I joined in and it was the best feeling in the world.
