I stared at John with big eyes. "Are you sure?" I asked her.
"Positive!"
I took a cracker and put it to my mouth. I looked down at John while I bit it. She was staring at me with her mouth wide open and her eyes were fixed on the cracker. I took another piece and she dropped the half eaten bread in her hand and gasped.
"Um John are you alright?" She didn't reply.
"Do you want it?" I asked handing the cracker to her. She snatched it and stuffed it all in to her mouth glaring at me.
"So...um... Where do you live?" I asked John trying to change the subject.
"Up in Donegal" she answered swallowing a whole ham sandwich.
"Wha-" I looked at her "oh I get it your up here on your holidays aren't you?"
"Nope. I came here on my own."
"Did you take the bus or something?"
"I walked!" She exclaimed
"Oh sorry. Wait what!"
"I walked! Do you not think I would be able!" She snapped at me.
"Oh, no, no it's just I wouldn't be able!"
"Well I'm not you am I?" She said angrily.
With that I left the kitchen and entered the sitting room but just before she couldn't hear me any more I called back over my shoulder " You know you were much nicer without any food in your stomach" and I slammed the door.
I'm not sure if she heard me or not but I didn't really care.
I went and sat beside Annie.
"Oh Annie how I wish you weren't frozen. Well I know you would panic and make everyone else paranoid but still I miss you a lot." I sighed and got up.
"You know your very lucky" I said to her.
"Wait!" I thought remembering something Annie had said just before all this happened.
"John! John!" I ran straight back in to the kitchen where I found Jenny putting things back in to the cupboard.
"John have we had any hurricanes in Ireland lately?" I asked
"What? Oh um... Nope I don't think so. Why?"
"Annie said something about hurricanes and that we've been getting them all year. I'm just wondering if it would mean something."
"Ok let me think. Well your family have been turned in to barbies."
"And yours are paintings"
"Yes and your friend here"
"Annie"
"Well her family are statues and we seemingly keep getting hurricanes over here."
"And what does all that mean?!"
"I don't know!" She exclaimed "Wait where is Annie's dad?"
"Oh my god I forgot all about Annie's dad! He should be frozen at work or somewhere unless it only happens to you if your in your house."
John was about to say something when we heard a knock on the front door. We looked at each other with nervous glances. Slowly John stood up and walked out towards the door. When she reached it she turned around and motioned for me to hide. I shook my head and made a step forward towards her. She glared at me and motioned again. I sighed and hid under the table. I was nervous. I shouldn't have let her go on her own.
I heard the door open and John and someone else with a rough voice, defiantly male, talking.
I couldn't make out the words but John sounded very polite.
After a couple of minutes of this the male voice grew insistent until I heard a quiet, strangled scream from John.
I tried to crawl out from under the table but I went up to fast and banged my head of the metal based underside. By the time I got out from under the table and in to the hall John and the mysterious man were gone.
