15 September 2012

It was exactly midnight before I got up. I had to be sure everyone was a sleep. I decided to slide down the stairs bannister instead of going down the actual stairs. Bad choice. Annie had lent me some of her pyjamas. Unfortunately they were pink and silky. So as I slid down the banister. Wait let me re-phrase that. So as I tried to slide down the bannister the silk stopped me from stoping when ever I needed. This causing me to slip halfway ( which was still very high ) and fall down the wrong side of the stairs hurting my thigh and ankle. Well that crossed out the running away. I stayed very still and listened for someone getting out of bed or a bedroom door opening. Nothing. Wow these guys were heavy sleepers; that had been a very loud thump and I had even given out a little yelp as I hit the floor.

I proceeded to the door and took the key from the little table beside it. I slipped it in to the lock and twisted. I slowly opened the door. I took my coat of the hanger and slipped it on. I also took my umbrella even though it had stopped raining. Just in case.

The moon was just a sliver in the sky and not a star in sight behind the big grey clouds. I closed and locked the door behind me. Keeping the key in my fist I limped straight back to the place where this whole thing had started. Underneath the tree where I first saw the monkey.

I looked around but there's was nobody there. I turned back to the tree and jumped with fright. There was a girl hanging upside down on one of the tree branches staring at me with big green eyes. Her hair was as black as coal and almost touching the ground. She looked around the age of 11 or so. She jumped down and introduced herself.

"Hi I'm John!"

"Isn't John a boys name?" I said without thinking.

"Well yes but I hate being called Jenny. It's so annoying so I call myself Jonny or John for short" She exclaimed.

"Um ok well I'm Ali-"

"Oh I know who you are but the real question is do you know who I am?"

"Who are you?"

"John! Did I not already say that? Oh some people just don't listen." She tutted.

" No I mean who are you? Not your name. You."

She sat on a wall and looked at me. She didn't answer the question. So I tried something else.

"Did you throw the stone?"

"Oh..... Sorry about that. It was only supposed to tap the window and lye on the sill. I had all the measures perfect I swear! But my stupid brother bumped in to me on his stupid skateboard and I threw it a bit to hard."

It was my turn to stare and I did. I just couldn't believe that a little girl like her could throw so far or hard. If it was me the stone would have landed around a couple of meters in front of my feet.

"How....?" I stuttered.

"Good arm?"

And I believed her. How stupid am I? But for some reason I trusted this little stranger.

She hopped of the wall and said; " Now the information."

I nodded.
