Flo ended up dancing with her mother. After stepping the Queens toes several times they decided that she would let her dance partner take the lead at the ball.

•••••••

The Ball had arrived faster the Flo had expected. That night she was to meet her future husband and she dreaded it. The whole day she had been shivering with fright, Felix thought she was ill and fussed for hours over her. And finally it was here. She stood in front of the mirror. The purple gown flowed down to the ground and her hair was put up in an elegant up-do with white flowers through it. Flo was almost in a daze that she didn't see her mother come up behind and put something around her neck. It made her jump but when she looked down she saw a beautiful, white diamond necklace. "But mother this is your necklace." she knew it straight away.

Her mother nodded with a smile "And now it is yours."

A sounding of trumpets were heard from the ballroom. "Duty calls!" her mother said taking her arm. Flo felt queazy. She could hear the pulse of her heart. It was racing. They walked swiftly down the corridor until the were on the grand staircase of the ballroom. There was loud music and talking making Flo feel worse by giving her a headache. The room was bright and colourful and everyone in it was wearing every colour of the rainbow. Flo's head swirled trying to comprehend it all. It felt like a dream. The whole room fell silent as she entered and bowed. She gulped as they all returned to their dancing and laughing. Flo stayed up on the staircase and slumped to the ground. Her mother was already off dancing. Even though she was one of the guests of honour, no one gave a toss about her. She sat on the step, scanning the crowds for a some one she could talk to. Minutes past but it seemed like hours. She hand to rest her head on her hand. "I hate this!" she proclaimed. Nobody noticed. The trumpets sounded again and Flo looked up. The doors swung open and in came a seventeen year old prince. He was wearing a silver tunic over puffed up shorts and.... Tights? Flo almost choked with laughter but she kept her mouth shut as it went all silent again. The boy bowed as he walked past the guests and he spotted Flo straight away. She stood up quickly and he made his way towards her. He bowed quickly taking her hand and kissing it. She dropped her hand to her side and wiped on the gown. She looked him up and down as he flipped his brown hair. "Would you like to dance?" he asked.

Flo looked at her mother and she gestured for her to say yes. "I suppose I have to." she replied. The whole room gasped and the prince coughed nervously. He took her hand again and led her down the stairs. The music started up again and everyone danced. Flo kept standing on his toes but he let it slide. This happened through every song. It came to the dance that Flo dreaded the most, The Angorian Waltz. In the dance you had to spin and clap and spin and skip. It made Flo dizzy half way through. She had to have a break from dancing but the prince didn't mind as he was too busy drooling over one of the serving maids. She went back to sit on the step she had been sitting on before. The rest of the world seemed to go on without her. She stared at the ceiling then at the orchestra then at the red velvet floor. "Are you okay?" said a kind voice from above. She looked up and her mouth dropped open.
