7 January 2013

Dear Bethan,

Hello. Don't panic. This letter really is from your future self. After five minutes it will self destruct, so I recommend you read quickly.

2013 will be... Well, it'll be a year at least.

A year of firsts, in fact... Your first time abroad, Your first time on a ferry, Your first time spending Euros!

Stuff will happen, you'll cry, you'll laugh, and at times, you'll want to run away and hide. Those idiots at school will still be idiots, (no surprise there then.) but your friends will still be your friends. They'll make you laugh, and help you through the bad times. And what do you know? Little miss lonely will actually make new friends! *stunned gasp*

Test results will be fine, and your chemistry teacher will actually phone home to tell your parents how brilliant you are. You'll get forced to do a 'Christ-maths' challenge, but it won't as bad as you think. You'll reach the one-year anniversary of moving into the house, only there won't be a party. Disappointing, but the fact that you finally have your own room will be worth it.

Life, for most of the year, is pretty much the same, boring and slightly repetitive. You won't get any better at waking up in the morning on time, and you'll almost be late several times.

Last year, you know, 2011, you made one of the best decisions of your life so far. Just taking that slip of paper home meant that you will end up going on the adventure of a lifetime. Going to Germany will be the best week of the year, and with all your friends it'll be even better. Not going to spoil it and reveal all the details, it'll be BRILLIANT, but don't have any high expectations about the hotel. (There was mould on the beds...)

The idiots will try and make your life hell, but don't let them get you down. You'll be fine. I'm still here, aren't I?

You'll sign up for Bardwell Buddies, and spend every Thursday lunch talking, singing, playing and laughing with children with severe disabilities. It will one of the best decisions ever, and the smiles on their faces and the sheer sense of 'I've done something good' will make life seem worthwhile.

At some point in the year, you'll find Opuss. I won't tell you what it is, just make sure you download it. It'll be worth it, I promise.

2012 will be interesting, and you'll embarrass yourself more than a few times. Don't worry though, IT WILL BE FINE. FINE. Okay?

Happy new year, Future Bethan. :)

Ps. Drop the letter and run, because I'd rather if we didn't get ourselves blown up.
