Her eyes flash, shifting from blue to gold. She stares at me, pleading silently for help. I glance at the others. They nod and I lead Amy away, behind the trees. "Thanks. I mean..." She was interrupted by a scream. The first transformations are always the worst. Amy clutches her stomach, retching, panic plastered on her face. I rub Amy on the back, whispering encouragements, trying to calm her down. A blink and she is no longer in her school uniform, instead covered in thick chestnut fur. She pads up and down impatiently, wanting to hunt. I nod, watching her run off, through the hedges and out of the school grounds. The breeze messes up my hair as I sink deep into thought. We had to change the way we looked to fit in. A rather large dog may blend in perfectly, but a wolf does not. So I set out to change our appearance. Many spells later, and the midnight pack could transform into smaller wolves, that look more like giant dogs. I sigh, thinking about all we've had to get through to be here. The lone wolves, united in a pack that is now the only one in the town. Others were hunted, killed for their difference. Humans don't like us, they think we kill their children, vandalism their town. A simple gene, and we are doomed to a life of secrecy and solitude. My grandmother was like me, a shape-shifter, that's where I got the gene. The gene that turned my life upside down. Amy returns, a bark ripping me from my dream like state. The bell rings in the distance. We're going to be late. I shout at Amy and beckon for her to come closer. She does, rolling her eyes and I glare at her, then let her transform in peace, grabbing my bag and flinging it over my shoulder. Amy soon follows, her usually olive skin pale and sickly. I pat her on the back, then say; "Don't worry. It gets better." I glance around. Everyone has left for their lessons, we are the only ones standing in the bus park. For the best really, because I'm not so sure that Amy would like to be seen like this. "Right. I suppose we better be going then."
Wrote this, then didn't really want to continue. But I thought I would post it anyway.
