This is one of my older opusses, but I'm not really sure whether I'm allowed to enter it!
I stare at the water. It beckons me, enticing me, inviting me. Soon the urge is too strong, and I slip into the cool lake, blue curls billowing out behind me. I sit on a rock, slipping off my shoes, shorts and shirt, leaving me in my white vest and knickers. Luckily, no one lives within fifty mile of this lake, so I'm pretty safe swimming in my underwear here. The water soothes my stress and eases my worries, as I slide lower into the depths. My breath held, I wait and watch as my legs merge into one, sleek tail, turquoise scales shimmering in the light. I dive into the lake, webbed hands pushing me forward. Light sparkles on the surface on the water, dancing like the fae on midsummer's night. It makes me smile, to be at one with the water, alive and free, a maid of the ocean. I swim deeper, hair creating a blue cloud around me. My vest looks out of place, a man made object in a beautiful, natural world. Fish swim past, silver arrows darting through the water. I chase them and my heart runs wild, happiness overwhelming my soul and being. This is where I belong.
