I stood amongst thousands more, For the fruit of my effort encore encore! In robes with sashes green, red or blue, Nervous, excited, awaiting what's due..

Higher achievements were dressed in white, Silvery robes beautiful to sight.. Proud and cheerful they sat in a line, In silvery gowns I wish were mine..

A red carpet welcome for the awarded many, A generous event, kept not a penny.. A beautiful stage on which we would mount, Anytime now, only minutes to count..

The oath then was taken by a thousand or more, To serve humanity, the needy and poor.. To use what we learn for well-being and good, Our palms raised high, this oath we took..

One by one we mounted the stage, To fly like birds, and not live in a cage.. At the hands of great beings we received our awards, Some of us, for performance, achieved great rewards..

A smile on our faces as we descended the ramp, And know how it is to share light from one lamp.. Mixed feelings - happy, sad surpassed our hearts, Together is our finish, together was our start..

I wonder if the white robe I would ever adorn, I wonder if for great achievements I was born.. I know one day where I want to be, In a silvery white robe, with my PhD..

This poem is a tribute to Manipal University where I obtained my Masters degree in Molecular Biology and Human Genetics for holding an absolutely grand and wonderful convocation ceremony for us postgraduates on 10-11-12..
