A king of old, with riches wide, A kingdom in which he took pride.. Far and wide spread his dominion, Killed were those who stood in rebellion..
Although of riches he had no short, His heart was callous and taut.. Had no regard for his subjects poor, And those who begged for mercy at his door..
The peasants lived an impecunious life, Homeless, penniless, under the knife.. While the rich were allies with the king, His praises they would often sing..
Until one day an enemy appeared, A war proclaimed as the king had feared.. The triumphant enemy imprisoned the king, In a petite prison of the dungeon's left wing..
As he sat and awaited his forthcoming doom, A kind voice echoed through the room.. "Do not despair, O prisoner king", "Surely you have a plan for everything?".. "Who speaks in my presence?" The king surveyed, An old man appeared through the cimmerian shade..
A wrinkled face with eyes of blue, Matched a silver beard and a fair hue.. He wore tattered clothes and a worn out shroud, Lean and thin, wrapped him around..
"Do not despair, King", he said again, "Surely its nothing your riches can't mend".. "I once had a kingdom of hundreds and thousand", Replied the king, lost and abandoned..
"You left the destitute and poor", "And the mercy-beggers at your door".. "Your riches and power you only did waste", Said the old man with some distaste..
The king cried out with much remorse, "If only I'd seen before, this course".. "I'd be just and generous to my people, "And reject I would never, the poor and the feeble"..
The old man reflected for a minute or two, At the face of a man awaiting his due.. "You truly repent", he said with assent, "On the moon you once were, on earth you descend"..
Towards the dungeon wall he strode, And pushed a boulder-revealed a hole! "Your steed awaits, O enlightened king", "Be wise and gentle, now do not sink"..
The king bewildered at the site before him, A chance to rejuvenate when all was so dim.. "Who are you?" He asked, "How can I afford?", "O enlightened king.. I am an Angel of the Lord"..
