In the dark of the night I walked, As raindrops cleansed my face.. Around me the enchanted forest talked, I hastned; quickened my pace..
A roof for shelter I sought tonight, Some water to quench my thirst.. Surely the kind would house a knight, Of king arthur's royal first..
I saw a moat, a bridge above, Beyond which castle ruins stood.. Walked through the narrowing cove, Towards the castle and fastened my hood..
All was quiet, an evil crept, I felt a stare and gleam.. In this great ruin something slept, Yes, this wasn't a dream..
A pair of red in the distant dark, And a grin with glistening sharp.. Through the silence I stopped to hark, And heard a low grumble unsually warp..
Only in the clearing I did understand, When warmth and heat filled the Air.. A fire dragon of the norwegian land, Looked at me as I invaded its lair..
My jeweled sword challenged the beast, It hurled towards me on fire.. I struck my sword, fought, did not cease, Or consequences would be dire..
My victory near, as I raised my blade, To strike at the monster's neck.. But something caught my eye in the shade, A nest of eggs amidst the wreck..
It was only then that I inferred, The fire beast's hurried offense.. It kept its young from invaders deterred, In a nest under a rickety fence..
I felt some pity for the old beast, And backed away into the cove.. I left it and the nest in peace, To nurture its young with love..
