With unicorn hair lived a girl in the woods
She’d paint and create and cook magic baked goods
The deer and mice, the rabbits and foxes
Found delight in her cakes and confectionery boxes
.
Yet beyond the woods she knew there was more
She wanted to see, to live, to explore
“I’ll take my baked goods to the rest of the world!”
Cried that bold, unicorn-haired girl
.
But watching her close as she prepared to leave home
Was Mr Negativity, with plans of his own
His heart was darker than the darkest night seems
And he vowed to destroy her spirit, her dreams
.
He hid in a shadow whilst she packed to travel
And invented a curse to make dreams unravel
“Charming girl with hair long and pure,
I’ll bewitch you so you can charm no more.”
.
The girl touched her head as the strands disappeared
Sure enough it was how she feared
Her hair fell short, as short as it could
As short as the shortest grass in the wood
.
For days she hid in her home in the trees
Covered her face, put her head on her knees
Her hair was all gone and she felt no longer bold
Was afraid of the evil that the world may behold
.
The woodland creatures gathered around
It was unheard of to them to see the girl frown
It broke their hearts to watch her dreams smoulder
So the rabbits, deer, foxes and mice all told her
.
“You’re sweet and bold and funny and fair,
You’re more than the girl with the unicorn hair.”
.
She blinked and sniffed and wiped her face clean
Reflected a moment on how silly she’d been
Somewhere within, she knew they were right
She set off with her confectionery that very same night
.
In no time at all, she set the world alight
With her spirit and charm and positive might
She sold her baked goods and she shared her baked cakes
Saw mountains and oceans and cities and lakes
.
But here’s the thing, a peculiar thing
Magic and colour to the world she’d bring
The more people she knew, the more her hair grew
The more they believed, the longer it became
As long as her legs, her unicorn mane
.
And without thinking twice, when back in her wood
She’d cut it all off, as short as she could
And return to the world with more of her goods
.
“It’s a wonderful world,” thinks unicorn-haired girl
Scissors in hand, she snips away every curl
She’s unsure if she’s sweet, bold, funny or fair
But she’s more than the girl with unicorn hair.
