This has got to be the funnest chapter ever in this book. I hope I don't sound like a new age crazy person who has been born again, but this chapter truly made my day. I am realizing that the term MAGIC in this book means thankfulness or gratitude or gratefulness.
Basically this chapter asked me to thank people the whole day. It wasn't much of a challenge for me because it has been a habit of mine to say thank you, whether I paid for a service or its "their" job or even over the phone. I've been brought up to say thank you no matter what. So going through the practice of this chapter of saying thank you was a breeze. BUT this chapter reminded me that it is not enough to just utter the words. Saying "thank you" out of politeness or habit is different from saying THANK YOU as you look in the persons eyes and express true gratitude and saying the reason why you're grateful.
According to the book GRATITUDE is a powerful energy, whoever you direct gratitude to, that's where it goes, its like sprinkling Magic Dust. Knowing that every action always has an equal reaction when you express your gratitude towards someone else, sincerely and meaningfully, you directly fill yourself with indescribable happiness.... well that's what this chapter said. Apparently its true, because when you say THANK YOU to someone who has done you a service and you mean it the words, you actually feel grateful that that person has done something for you... ONLY if you mean it. Probably because you look and find a reason to be grateful for.
Today's assignment was to look for at least 10 people to sprinkle magic dust on, by saying a heartfelt thank you. It doesn't matter if I get the opportunity in person, I can mentally acknowledge my gratitude for them. The thing is, when I say thank you, I have to give a reason, and that puts more meaning to the words THANK YOU.
The book made me realize how many people I have to be thankful for. THERE ARE A LOT! When you think back, those people who serve you at restaurants, people who put gas in your car, pack your groceries, the people in the toll booths, the people who clean the streets, the people who collect your garbage, the cops, the people who maintain public transport... the list goes on and on... these people perform a service for you to make your life easier, so be grateful and THANK THEM sincerely.
For times when someone serving you is grouchy or gave poor service. You have to choose to be grateful, you don't know how their day went and why they were grouchy. But in spite of their day they are there to serve you, be grateful for that.
I loved this chapter. It made me feel more grateful for people who I have benefited from whether they are paid to do it or not. On that note... THANK YOU FOR READING, because going through this book to change my life feels so lonely and you reading gives me hope. THANK YOU.
