Chapter 18
The night grew darker as the sun began to sink behind the trees at the nature preserve. Tyler and I took a few more pictures of the sunset and we parted ways. Earlier that day I asked him if he was going to Josh's party and he said that he was. That made me even more happy. Tyler is one of those people who came cheer you up no matter what. I walk home in the growing darkness taking pictures as I go. But before going home I stop at the Walgreens downtown and process my pictures. After they're done I pull out a wad of cash and pay the cashier. On my way home it starts trickling rain so I pull out my umbrella. It pops open with a push of a button an I hold it above my damp head of hair. After a few minutes I make it home. I leave my umbrella outside to dry, along with my boots and coat. I push open the door and the delicious smell of dinner hits me. I walk into the kitchen as my dad pulls a large chicken out of the oven. He sets it on the stove to cool.
"You've been gone all day." He says. "Where've you been?"
"I was at the nature preserve with Tyler taking pictures for my wall." I say. I lay the envelope of pictures on the counter. I walk to the fridge and grab the chocolate milk. I pour me and my dad a glass. I had it to him. He thanks me.
"Mind if I take a look at them?" He asks after taking along drink of the creamy, brown milk.
"Yeah sure." I say.
He pulls out about 3 dozen pictures and shuffles through them. Most of them are pictures of plants and wildlife, but there are a few of me and Tyler. My favorite of us is a silhouette picture if us laying in the wildflowers before sunset.
We eat supper, chatting about how our day went. My dad finished and not long after so did I. I rinsed our plates and put them into the dishwasher. My dad pulls on his coat and drives to work. I load the rest of the dishes and turn on the dishwasher. I finish cleaning the kitchen and I plop down onto the couch to continue looking through my pictures. I find another that I like. It's a picture of me jumping up to catch a butterfly, my finger is inches away from the colorful butterfly. I put them back into their envelope and go upstairs to my bedroom. I spread them across my bed and pin them up, one by one, onto my wall. I put my favorite ones into picture frames. I have a whole box of them, my mom had collected them. I set the framed photos on my desk. My phone vibrates violently and falls off of my bed. I reach down to look at the caller ID. I hit answer.
"Hey Josh."
