girls built of havoc and wonder

they say, that her skin smelt like plasticine. and her tongue, she treated it like glass, constantly careful because the backlash didn't just hit them. they say she balances galaxy's on her toes, each moving through a universe of sand. they say that her veins would itch her, because of lost adventures and places she missed going. they say her knees buckle when she sees sharp objects or an open road. they say, she wants to discover, but everywhere has been mapped. they say she wants to roam free, but everywhere there are border patrols. they say she gets cold at night, keeping all her love holed up in sunsets and waves. they say she wanted to be a mystery, a green flash, a myth a legend so much... she almost figured out how. it took strangers offering lifts home because her face reminded them of childhood. it took sleepless nights running disused train tracks because cops had alleys covered. it took beach sunsets with warm beer and abandoned dogs carrying fleas, because twos company, more is a party. it took a lifetime, and still no one knows her name, or the shapes of the grazes on her knees, the way her smile is lopsided.
