I wrote an open letter
I said 'I love you' today
But the target of my affection
Was not a boyfriend.
The ones on my mind today
Were those I know who defend me everyday
The military boys in my life
Family friends I have known a long time
And so them I felt compelled to thank
To express my love and gratitude
For their sacrifice and selfless duty
In service of our country,
And protection of everyone here
Including people they don't know
And including me.
Today I was content
And I felt blessed
To express love to four servicemen
And not a boyfriend.
