Continuing to read the bible and debates.. Here's a wee quote (many many examples but this will do for now) from Deuteronomy 22:
28 If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.
So although I haven't got to the new testament yet, I'm inviting spoilers as to why this sort of tosh is upheld as a virtuous belief system?
The little I know so far suggests that some believe Jesus' teachings supersede the more barbaric old testament (some don't). But how does that make things better? It suggests a religion/god that changes its tune to fit.. Time for another rethink perhaps, but unfortunately the world is a smaller place what with science and technology and such, so prophets tend to find it harder to convince the multitudes...
.. Oh and ladies, the wearing of jeans or a shirt and tie would result in being stoned and not in a good way.
