I wasn't very old when I learnt a valuable lesson. Better to be true to a few, than trying to please a legion.

My mother told me many things and most I still hold dear. "You can't be all things to everyone" she whispered in my ear. I didn't understand at first but now I think it's clear.

Different people want different things and some just want it all

To please each individual you are heading for a fall.

You will start to compromise and then to tell some lies

Risk true loyalties, to pander to a friendly disguise.

No, stick with who you are and be thankful that it's enough

To be best friends with some, even when times are rough.

They will love you when you're funny Comfort you when you cry They will not care if you've no money Miss you when saying goodbye.

Do not sacrifice these friendships just to add a couple more

Don't try to please them all it becomes a weighty chore

With best intentions, trying to please them all ends up pleasing none

It will end up looking fake and even loyal friends will feel that they've been done.
