Today a silver medal was awarded to me I felt ashamed to accept what could only be
A token, a symbol, a meaningless gesture To cover a wound in a beat that festures.
Did I deserve this coin to have on my chest? Only doing my job and trying my best.
The real heroes are the soldiers giving their life In this world where killing is rife.
What about the children on the breadline? Is their struggle less worthy than mine?
I'm proud that I own it, but not for their reason My true heart beats with a drum that sparks treason.
Words are cheap but lives will be cheaper In this world where we sink ever deeper.
Where will it end, when will we see A medal doesn't separate you from me.
Children are dying, our leaders are lying. Our elders forgotten, alone they are crying.
I used to be proud to be called a Brit. Now the label makes me feel like shit.
