I suppose it's time I told you all about the things that are getting me excited at the moment, and why they should be getting you excited as well.
Firstly, The Hobbit-An Unexpected Journey, which comes out on 14th December this year. I've done a whole Opuss on this so I won't go into too much detail. All I really need to say is that it looks stunning! Get the Hobbit Movies App on the App Store which has virtually everything you can possibly need to know for the time being: pictures, cast, trailers, production blogs and more!
The second thing is my Game of the Year. (I got Skyrim this year, but it was released last year so doesnt count.) I don't buy games very often. I got my Xbox in March this year. So far I still only have two games: Skyrim and Batman- Arkham Asylum. Both very good games, though Skyrim is better. I will probably only get one more game this year, so it will be a good one. The game I'm getting is Dishonored (American Spelling I'm afraid, but that's what it says on the box.) For those who don't know it's a Steampunk game where you play a supernatural assassin (which is basically the first thing Raphael Colantonio says in every interview. Yes Raph, we know that bit! Tell us something new!) But it is a good description without spoiling too much. Trailers are easily found on YouTube as well as a behind the scenes trailer called Inception (not to be confused with the very confusing but fascinating film about dreams with Leonardo de Caprio). On top of all this is an IOS game called Rat Assassin, which is basically just n advert for the game. It's Fruit Ninja with more blood and rats instead of fruit. Being of a slightly gentler persuasion myself, fruit ninja is better, but it is still rather fun. The game-that is the proper Dishonored game- is an 18, so not for tots, and looks rather graphic, but superb nevertheless. That comes out on PS3, PC and XBox on 9th October in America and 12th October in Europe and Britain. You can preorder it in many places now, and there are different DLCs that come with the various packages. I won't explain them here, but GAME sells a version that comes with some rather nice looking tarot cards so Ive preordered that.
There are a couple of books that I'm excited about too. You know, I'm not too psyched about JK Rowling's next book, even though she is superb. I'm not even sure when it comes out. I think it's this month, but I could be wrong. It does look interesting though. I'll see what the reviews are and make my decision then. There's always Christmas, after all (which, may I add, is looming horribly close. Off to buy some thermal socks for my uncle...I must do and Opuss about that.)
What I am quite interested in aren't really novels. There are two discworld books that I'm looking forward to. One is Turtle Recall, the next edition of The Discworld Companion (the last edition, the New Discworld Companion, was released in 2001.) It has a cover illustration by a French artist. I'm not sure whose doing the rest of the book. I hope it's Kidby, for stunning though the art looks, it doesn't have that comedy that Kidby manages.
Another Discworld thing is the Compleat Ankh-Morpork which is basically an A-Z of the city, like an A-Z of London but with more jokes. There are a few images on Amazon (where you can also see the cover art for Turtle Recall) which make it look spectacular. I don't think it will replace the old Streets of Ankh-Morpork. I'm hoping it will add to it, and not make it redundant. But by the looks of things that won't happen. And even if it does, it still makes a great poster, eh!
Continuing with the theme of maps, the Lands of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin looks great. It maps the whole of the world in which Westeros is a part of in glorious colour. There have been maps in the books, but small and dull and far from all-inclusive. Also, Sky did an app of the world for iPad which I don't have, but even that wasn't absolutely complete. This new collection- more a set of posters than a real book- looks set to be a real gem for all fans of the series, (both books and tv.)
Anyway, I think that just about covers my current interests. I hope it's been informative to prospective buyers of said products, or has at least filled five minutes of your day! If there's anything Ive missed out you think I or others would like, please comment in the allocated area.
