Over the years, certain pieces of music were always present. As soon as I hear it, it whisks me back to another time and place.
For example, during the first Gulf war, myself and the driver had a long conversation about what piece of music would be apt for when we rolled into Iraq from Saudi. We chose 'Land of hope and glory'. Just as we approached the border which the combat engineers cleared only moments earlier, an American MP stopped us. We left the music playing. When we moved on into Iraq, it was to 'Girls just wanna have fun' by Cindy Lauper. Epic fail!
Since then, music has played a large part of my life for various reasons. Such as sitting in a Scud missile attack listening to The Beloveds 'Happiness' album. Having BBQ's with 'Rock Lobster' belting out.
Got to be said, life would be dull without some tunes!
