"Ash wake up," said a voice. She could feel her body being lightly shook. She opened her eyes. There were a set of blue crystal clear eyes staring back at her. She stretched, yawning. "We need to head out," he said picking up one of the duffle bags. She nodded. It seemed like the best option at the moment. "Where's mom?," I asked. "She upstairs, I assume that she's getting ready to head out too," he said. "That doesn't sound like a bad idea," I said. I got up and went up stairs to my room. Outside, everything was clear and there wasn't any of those things to be seen. The sky had an eerie darkness to it like the darkness of a storm. I put on some skinny jeans and a t-shirt and my sneakers. I walked down the hall making my way to the stairs when I saw moms bed room door was cracked. I poked my head in. Mom was siting in the bed holding a picture of dad. She raised her head and looked at me. Her eyes were red from crying but still she smiled at me. I smiled back at her. She waved her hand, motioning for me to enter. She got up and got a brush and returned to her spot on the bed. She patted the spot on the ground indicating that she wanted to brush my hair. I walked over and set down on the floor in front of her. She ran her fingers through my hair. "You know, you have hair just like your fathers, so smooth and dark," I could hear the smile in her voice. She ran the brush through it and then braided it. "You don't want it in your face," she said, "and you don't want one of them to grab it." I nodded gently so I wouldn't mess her up. When she was finished I turned around and looked at her. "You need to get ready, we'll be heading out soon," I said.
