6 December 2012
We cruised upon a rolling wave,
On a voyage people seldom brave,
Under the eerie canopy,
Of many a scraggly mangrove tree,
They reached out with bony hands,
Like creatures rising from the swampy sands,
Something emerged from the saline murk,
Beside the labyrinthine roots, It silently lurked,
Then ugly jaws opened wide,
With rows of grimy teeth inside,
Its moss-green scales shone in the dusky light,
Its austere eyes were red alight,
The hairs on my back stood on end,
As I realized it'd brought a friend.
