I have a little angel that's sits upon my right,
The devil on my left also sits quite tight.
In my ear they whisper the things that I should do,
They fight each other trying to win my vote when I am blue.
'do it' said the devil
'it's an opportunity not to miss'
'please..' said the angel,
'don't take that devil's kiss'
I struggle to pick a side nearly every time,
They both spoke together 'leave her, she is mine!'
They walked with me for miles while they had their little fight,
The devil wanting evil while the angel wanting right.
I sat on a bench while I watched their little war,
I tried and tried but alas, I couldn't keep the score.
While the devil played his evil with a face full of scorn,
The angel never gave up although a tired face was worn.
The devil screamed 'just give up! Her soul belongs to me!'
The angel smiled sweetly and looked so heavenly.
'devil you misunderstand this situation every day, you see her soul is not her own to just give away'
'nonsense!' said the devil, with eyes that were so confused.
'I'm telling you the truth' said the angel a little amused.
'Devil, this is one that will be a big mistake, her soul was a gift, one you cannot take.
Maybe you can learn from this and change your wicked ways,
Soon you will see that evil never pays'
The devil was angry now and knew his game was lost,
He didn't quite understand just what it would cost.
You see he never knew what it was like to be good,
He didn't know the difference between things he shouldn't do and should.
'fine you win this battle! You angels make me mad, but this doesn't mean that I will stop being bad'
That's the last I saw of him as he flew off in the night,
I sit and wonder if he found another angel to fight.
Still I have my angel who gives out so much cheer,
And fights off any devil
Who tries to whisper in my ear.
