Before I knew that asking drill type questions to toddlers really wasn't a good idea, I had a couple experiences that should have clued me in. I'd been working with one particularly smart guy and one day he let me know in no uncertain terms he'd had enough of being drilled. I knew it when I asked him, for the hundredth time,"what color is this" he looked at me slyly and said, "I don't know, you tell me." Nuff said. Another little one I'd worked with from 6mo to 3, of course didn't know his colours in the beginning so he got in the habit of saying "I don't know", in response. Well, by the time he learned his colors he had developed a curious way of responding to my question. Even though he knew the color he'd preface it with "I don't know" so he'd say very loud and proud, "I don't know, blue!", " I don't know, yellow!" , " I don't know, red!" Ha ha! You get the idea. ☺
