and this is the reason, I took a job in a shop, defying all reason.
Back before computers computed all the cash, and shop girls had to use their brains. I know it sounds rash.
But there I was, during the busy Christmas season. Trying to keep pace, being cordial and pleasing.
Who should walk up to my counter that day? A famous Hollywood star ready to pay.
Star sightings are not unusual, we don't make a fuss But my heart skipped a beat, why, it was Michael Douglas!
He gave me his cash in an increment so strange. I had to engage my brain, I began to feel strange.
I counted his change but something was not right I tried three, four, five times, Oh God! What a plight!
He waited politely while I Fumbled some more but soon a line was forming half way through the store!
Oh God! I can't get this right! Soon I was shaking and sweating in my miserable fright!
My brain was in turmoil! shutting down in confusion. Turning my world into a dream like illusion.
Yet, there he stood patiently hoping beyond hope I'd get my act together, and figure out how to cope.
At last he took pity and reached out his hand To calm my shaking digits He had a plan!
"I remembered I need my cash so I'll take it back if that's OK. I'll pay with a card and be on my way"
Such a kind act! Executed with a grin. And with that sweet gesture Michael Douglas saved my skin!
*event that happened in my home town Santa Barbara California when I was a teen.
