The light of stars we captured, caught in jars of glass, because the stolen starlight, our candles did surpass.
We put them in our windows, to shine out in the night, to stop the stain of darkness, it was our way to fight.
For when the light faded away, then the terrors came, we knew not why they hunted us, or even of their name.
They had arrived November ninth, and eaten Richard Hall, they didn't even leave his clothes, no, nothing left at all.
We saw them first December time, near a lamp-lit door, with cold green eyes and razor teeth, and one red dripping claw.
By January we'd noticed that, they didn't like the light, they preferred to kill when the moon was gone, it seemed to hurt their sight.
But though bright lights, would slow them down, the killing did not stop, they rampaged on, more people died, our population dropped.
In desperation we sought help, to a local mage we ran, he said "you need a brighter light, I have for you a plan".
"if you take these magic jars, and hold them to the sky, the light you catch can set you free, and your enemies blind"
So with our lights in place we hid, to see what they would do, when they came, we heard them scream, and now sightless start to run.
No more monsters came to town, but the starlight jars we kept, shining bright for miles around, safe in our beds we slept.
(Just a little shout-out to JRR Tolkein for the 'light of stars phrase' from the Hobbit)
