I used this poem in my story Doppelgänger, because I couldn't think up another one on the fly. I wrote this for my dad my eighth grade year. He was shipping out the day of my State matching band competition, so I wrote him this poem and stuck it in his backpack and told him not to read it until he got off the plane. Hope you all like it.
Every single practice
And every single show
Ledbetter tells us to play for someone that we know
Play for someone you love
Play for someone you hate
All of this considered,
your step offs won't be late
See them in the band room
See them in the stands
And imagine just for a moment
You're being guiding by their hands
So when I'm marching off the field and I'm about to say adieu
Just know that when I play
Daddy, I'm playing just for you
