Finally the subway comes to a stop, the passengers standing almost losing their balance. Others who are sitting get up and go to the doors, almost waiting to sprint through them as soon as they open. But to my surprise they walk out calmly and swiftly. I cant help but laugh, as I slowly step out onto the platform.

My eyes drift to the homeless people that wait by the subway, that wait to just board it and never get off. Others wait there until others come and then do a special talent to earn money. Others, just have no where else to go. I slowly look down, realizing I really don't have it that bad.

Finally I start up the stair case that leads to the streets. My mothers apartment is only two blocks away. I duck into the alley way, and then around another. Finally I stand at the back door, but already I know something's wrong.

The front door is wide open, glass shattered everywhere. My heart skips a beat, the silence becoming eerie. I slowly step into the dark apartment, glass crunching under my feet.

I hear a thud, then a tiny laugh. I slowly round the stove, searching for a knife. As I grab one, the lights flick on and there stands my biggest fear.
