She was a girl of integrity, Honesty, intelligence, morals and truth. Young and impressionable, yet severe in her manner And she wandered though life with a sense of direction
Intentions so great, With a listening ear and a heart of silver, Arms ready to embrace, hands ready to hold, Eyes like an eagles: crystal blue and sharp
She chanced upon a man with feet bare, heart bare, Who offered her the world His tongue spun gold, and his eyes lit stars, His hands painted things in her mind
But she was strong, mature, and wise, She knew that men like that were liars, She knew she should walk away, and forget, And marry a nice man with a library and carriage
"I can take you to the cosmos, I can take you to heaven, I can take you to the ends of the earth, To the stitches between your dreams, To the bridge from here to there!"
"Lies!" she cried! "It's all lies!" And she ran away, her brain blurry with dust, Finding her way home, wiping her feet, getting to bed, Falling asleep, living for 20 years
She married a man with a library full of stories, But they were only there when she opened a book And he had a carriage, but she never saw the cosmos When she travelled in it down dusty tracks
And one day, sat in the drawing room, she chanced to gaze out of the window, And saw the man with a silver tongue walk past Arm in arm with a girl with a sense of direction and crystal blue eyes
And in her heart of silver hearts, She knew that while she sat behind glass They were on the way to see the stitches between their dreams They were on the way to see the cosmos
I was a girl of integrity, Honesty, intelligence, morals and truth. Young and impressionable, yet severe in my manner And yet now, I regret all I've done
