The Pear Tree

The pear tree
Stands tall
Silver bark,
Flaking from its
Gnarled branches

"Pluck a pear"
It whispers
"And I will
Heal your soul"
It hushes

My heart was
So broken, I felt
That I needed healing.
I found the pear tree
Deep in the forest

I climbed the pear tree
Barefoot, and reach the
Highest branch,
My hands and feet
Dusty and glittering

I plucked a pear
And took a bite.
It's sweet juices
Burst and ran
Down my neck and arms

There, clutching sweet irony
I died, and
Slept, like an angel,
In the gnarled branches
Of the pear tree:
Healed

Fleeting as a bird, you looked at me.
